All sluice gates of the Udawalawe reservoir have been opened Sunday morning as the reservoir is reaching spill level and the residents in low lying areas have been warned, the Department of Irrigation said.
Media Director of the Disaster Management Center Pradeep Kodippili said relevant officials in the Sevanagala Bahirawa areas in Moneragala District and Ambalantota and Vanuwila areas have been informed.
The residents living on the banks of the Walawe River and those using the River are requested to be vigilant as the opening of the sluice grates could result in the sudden rise of water levels in the river.
The official said even though there is no danger yet the, the public is being made aware of the situation continuously.
