Sri Lanka parliament to debate current political crisis

When the Sri Lankan parliament convened this morning, political party leaders have decided to hold a debate on the prevailing political situation in the country in the aftermath of the Local Government election.

A tense situation arose when the Speaker Karu Jayasuriya that there was no suggestion in the House to hold a debate on the mater.

The Speaker has then adjourned the parliament for 15 minutes to discuss the issue and decided to hold a three-hour debate afterwards.

Accordingly, the debate will be held from 4 – 7 pm today.

According to the Committee on Parliamentary Business, the parliament convened at 10.00 am today to pass the Code of Ethics for Members of Parliament and the adoption of new Standing Orders were to be passed.
