Sri Lanka state doctors’ union Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) launched another island-wide, 24-hour token strike Friday making 10 demands.
Patients are severely inconvenienced and non-emergency services at most government hospitals throughout the country have been affected due to the strike, local media reported.
The state media reported that the striking doctors were distributing leaflets containing political statements instead of prescriptions to the patients who have come to the government hospitals for outpatient services.
The GMOA’s strike is based on 10 demands including the approval of Disturbance Availability and Transport allowance revision, revision of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Singapore and reduction of high taxation upon medical officers and private hospitals.
