Three dead and two arrested after tragic crash on the M25 involving multiple vehicles

An involving a minibus and a car between junctions 26 for Waltham Abbey and 27 for the M11 at about 18:15 BST on Monday (23 Aug), Essex Police reports.

Three people have lost their lives in this devastating collision, while a fourth person fights for his life in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police appealed to anyone with information or dash-cam footage to contact them, while two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and serious injury by dangerous driving.

Nine ambulances, two air ambulances, and four fire engines attended the scene.

Detective Sergeant Steve Holmes described the crash scene as “incredibly challenging”.

“We are continuing to work as quickly as we can to piece together exactly what led to this tragic incident,” he said.

“My thoughts, and those of all officers on the scene, are with the families of those who lost their lives.”

The motorway was closed for about 11 hours while officers gathered evidence.
