UN top official satisfied with progress in Sri Lanka’s reconciliation process

A top United Nations official visiting Sri Lanka today has expressed satisfaction on the progress of Sri Lanka’s recompilation process and the measures taken by the government.

UN Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman expressed this view when he called on Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil on Friday (09) at Temple Trees. The discussion with the Premier was focused on the measures taken by the government to bring reconciliation.

The UN official, who arrived in the island on Thursday, also met with the Secretary to the Ministry of Defense Mr. Kapila Waidyaratne at the Ministry today (09).

During the ensuing discussion matters relating to the national reconciliation process including land release was taken up for discussion. The Under- Secretary General was briefed on the progress of the reconciliation process and its current status and Feltman was pleased with the actions taken in this regard, the Ministry of Defense said.

The UN Under-Secretary-General also met with President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat Office today.
