Unexpected increase in Covid patients from several areas

An unexpected increase has been noted in Covid patients from a number of areas in Sri Lanka at present, the Health Ministry has stated.

The Ministry said, therefore, it has decided to increase the number of random Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) being conducted across the country to detect Covid patients.

Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said the need to conduct more RAT tests was observed during a meeting chaired by the Health Ministry Secretary that was held yesterday.

“A programme has already been formulated for this purpose. Those who arrive at hospitals with symptoms such as cough and phlegm and those in and around hospitals will be subjected to RAT tests under the programme. Random RAT tests will also be continuously conducted at selected places. I believe certain areas are showing an unexpected increase in Covid patients even at present. It is essential to focus attention on this particular matter,” Dr. Herath explained.

He further called on the public to act responsibly in this regard and to strictly adhere to the health guidelines.
