Country will be taken forward under the government’s new structure – PM

Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe says the country will be taken forward under the government’s new program with some SLFP ministers and UNP ministers working together to resolve the issues faced by the citizens.

The Premier participating in a ceremony held this morning to lay the foundation stone for a housing complex to be constructed in Thalawathugoda for middle income families said the program to take the country forward has been discussed with the President and the SLFP Ministers.

The Prime Minister said that the SLFP Ministers met President Maithripala Sirisena and him Wednesday night and together decided to restructure the government and come up with a new program of work. He added that the ministerial positions under the new program will be assigned scientifically and the program will be expedited.

The Premier noted that within the past two years the construction of a number of housing complexes commenced and the public will be able to benefit from these, within the next two years.

He pointed out that projects such as the housing complex in Thalawathugoda are needed to fulfil the housing needs of the middle class as middle income population increases with Sri Lanka becoming a higher middle income earning nation in the near future.

Pledging to provide a permanent solution to the housing issue in the country, the Premier said that a plan will also be devised to resettle low income families in the Colombo City and surrounding areas. Once they are resettled, their previously occupied lands will be utilized for development purposes.
