A security officer attached to a private bank was injured during a shooting in an attempted robbery in Anuradhapura at around 6.45 this morning (06), the Police said.
The security officer and a bank representative were depositing cash into the ATM machine when two men in a motorcycle attempted to steal the money.
The two groups had gotten into a fight, the security officer’s firearm had accidentally discharged amid the fight.
However, the attempt was unsuccessful and the robbers had fled the scene.
The injured security officer was admitted to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
The Anuradhapura Police are further probing into the incident.
