President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has assured that all necessary measures will be taken immediately to avert the electricity crisis prevailing in the country, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said today.
Chairman of the PUCSL Janaka Ratnayaka said the President has further revealed that the Treasury and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) will make sure to facilitate the import of fuel for the generation of electricity.
The President emphasized that the necessary actions in this regard will be taken with immediate effect.
President Rajapaksa has assured the PUCSL and the general public that the state will take necessary measures to avert the current electricity crisis in the country, Ratnayaka added.
Sri Lanka is currently facing a severe electricity crisis due to a lack of fuel to power the country’s power plants.
The state is unable to purchase fuel as a result of the Dollar crisis, despite several fuel tankers being docked outside the Colombo Port.
Thereby, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has been imposing long spells of power cuts, with over 07-hours of power disruption scheduled for today.
