Vedda Chief Uruvarige Vannila Ettho has lodged a complaint with the Mahiyangana police regarding death threats he is receiving in the wake of his statement to the media regarding IUSF convener Wasantha Mudalige.
He told the media after receiving a letter threatening him with death that he often visits cities and attend various programmes in public places and that his life is in danger.
He requested the relevant authorities to conduct a formal investigation of the incident and to bring those responsible before the law.
Badulla Division SSP Sujith Wedamulla, who after considering Veddha Chief’s concerns, instructed OIC Mahiyangana police W.W.C.R. Wickremeratne to detail two policemen for Veddha chief’s security.
The OIC said Veddha Chief’s complaint is now being probed.(Ranjith Karunaweera)
