Belgrave Middleway crash: Six dead in six-vehicle smash

Six people have been killed in a multiple-vehicle crash in Birmingham.

The accident happened on Belgrave Middleway near Edgbaston at about 01:00 GMT (England time) and involved six vehicles.

The driver of a black cab died at the scene, along with a female passenger, while a male passenger died later in hospital.

Four men in a car were all thrown from their vehicle and three of them died at the scene. The fourth is in a critical condition.

West Midlands Police tweeted that the scene was “very difficult and upsetting” and the stretch of road from Islington Row to Bristol Street was closed.

West Midlands Ambulance Service described the crash scene as “extensive”.
