Administrative committee appointed for Sri Lanka Cricket until elections held

Sports Minister Faiszer Mustapha has appointed an interim administrative committee for the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) until elections are held and the Secretary to the Sports Ministry H.T. Kamal Padmasiri as the competent authority heading the committee.

Sri Lanka Cricket elections which was scheduled to be held on 31st May was postponed indefinitely after the Court of Appeal yesterday issued a stay order until June 14 preventing the SLC election from being held today.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) meanwhile announced that its Annual General Meeting has been postponed indefinitely and the Extraordinary General Meeting, which it was planning to hold today has been cancelled following the Stay Order given by the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal issued the order after hearing a petition filed by Nishantha Ranatunga, a former secretary of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and a candidate for the presidency of the board, against the reelection of current SLC president Thilanga Sumathipala requesting the court to issue an injunction preventing him from contesting for the post again.

Meanwhile, Minister of Sports Faizer Mustapha said yesterday that the President had assigned a great responsibility to the Ministry and accordingly, he will take a decision that would suit the country after discussions with the President.
