Biomass Terminal to be inaugurated in Homagama today

 

The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy is implementing a project on Promoting Sustainable Biomass Energy Production and Modern Bio-Energy Technologies with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

According to the UNDP, the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emission from the use of fossil fuel for thermal energy generation in Sri Lanka industrial sector by removing barriers to the realization of sustainable biomass plantation, increasing the market share of biomass energy generation mix and by adopting and improving biomass-based energy technologies in Sri Lanka to contribute towards the economic progress of Sri Lanka.

As part of this Project, the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, FAO and UNDP in collaboration with Ecotherm Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd will establish a Biomass Energy Terminal with a capacity of generating 40 MT of processed and high-quality biomass fuel per day.

Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and the Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ajith P. Perera will inaugurate the terminal today in Homagama, Colombo today (8 November).
