The Cabinet will announce their decision on the solution for the teachers and principals salary anomalies next week, said the Cabinet Spokesperson MP Dallas Alahapperuma.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed to look into the issue submitted their report yesterday (23 Aug).
During a Cabinet Media briefing held on Tuesday (24 August) MP Alahapperuma stated that the decision was postponed due to a number of reasons.
” We, as in the four Ministers discussed this matter six days. We even discussed our decision with the Cabinet as well, yesterday (23). However we could not discuss the matter with the President, so we had to postpone it to next week,
” We still have to summon several more institutions, and besides, the issue was given to the Finance Ministry to resolve on Friday afternoon, which left us with no time until today. We will definitely inform the people of the decision next week, after further discussions with the Cabinet.” The Minister added.
Trade Union action taken by the Ceylon Teachers’ Union will intensify due to the lack of a positive response to their demands, union members stated.
General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, Joseph Stalin says the government was deliberately avoiding resolving their issues.
