In a surprising turn of events, the Sri Lanka national sevens captain and prolific third-row player Sudarshana Muthuthanthri will join CH & FC upon his arrival to the country after a successful training stint in New Zealand.
The 28-year-old forward Muthuthanthri was a regular figure in the Havelock Sports Club outfit donning the Pink jersey for over the five seasons and is one of Sri Lanka’s finest third-row players.
With him not participating in this year’s Dialog Rugby League, the Tuskers skipper had not been listed in any of the registered squads making it easy for him to make his way to CH & FC. The official statement released by CH & FC will see Muthuthanthri making his club rugby season debut this upcoming week in the crucial CH-CR clash that will decide the 3rd place in this year’s league.
The addition of Muthuthanthri will no doubt bolster the CH & FC attack as they ready themselves for crucial games in the upcoming weeks. The team will have to win the CR & FC game with a bonus point if they intend to make it to the top and the team will look at making the best of the Dialog Clifford Cup.
Soon after the sevens stint, the former S. Thomas’ player left the island in November last year for training in Auckland, New Zealand and also made his Auckland Blues sevens debut in the recently concluded Provincial Sevens tournament.
This will be a new challenge for Muthu as he is set to combine with Yoshitha Rajapakse at CH & FC and it would be interesting to see how it all works out.
