Co-cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Rajitha Senaratne has told the media that after the May Day celebrations, the Prime Minister has discussed with him about fielding a common candidate at the next presidential election.
Senaratne has made this observation in response to a question posed by a journalist at a news conference yesterday (10).
According to the Minister, a decision on whether there will be a common candidate or a party leader would contest at the next presidential election would be decided once the election is announced.
He has added that the matter of a common candidate would be discussed with other political parties once the United National Front (UNF) reaches an agreement on fielding a common candidate.
Meanwile, Co-cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Gayantha Karunatilake has told the media that the UNP Working Committee would decide a candidate once the presidential election was announced.
