The12-hour police curfew imposed from 6.00 pm Saturday in some areas in the Galle District has been lifted at 6.00 am today, Police said.
The Police curfew was imposed in the areas of Gintota, Kurunduwatta, Maha Hapugala, Welipitimodara, Ukwatta and Piyadigama where tension prevailed.
Police said the tense situation in those areas has now completely been brought under control.
However, the Minister of law and Order Sagala Ratnayake said the security will be maintained until the areas return to normalcy with all the disputes resolved.
Around 200 regular police and 100 Special Task Force (STF) police officers had been deployed to the area to bring the situation under control and maintain law and order to enhance security on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara.
