The Delimitation Review Committee has informed Speaker of House Karu Jayasuriya that another two months is required to compile the report on the delimitation of Provincial Councils.
The Speaker was informed of the requirement during a special party leaders meeting that convened under the patronage of the Speaker.
Accordingly the Committee said there is a need to conduct an in depth study into delimitation and reach a common stance prior to the compilation of the report.
However the Speaker of House during the party leaders meeting stressed regardless of the situation, the conduct of the Provincial Council election should be expedited.
Issuing a statement the Speaker’s office said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe reiterated the possibility of a further delay in compiling the delimitation report being brought to the attention of the Cabinet of Ministers and informed the party leaders of the recommendations following the assessment.
Speaker of House Karu Jayasuriya appointed the Delimitation Review Committee under the leadership of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe after the Delimitation was defeated in Parliament.
