‘Govt. will not intervene in IGP & DIG Nalaka inquiries’

Three seniors of the administration service have been appointed to conduct investigations into complaints received regarding the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara.

Minister of Law and Order Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the government will not interfere in investigations.

The Minister also said the investigation launched by the Criminal Investigations Department into the Deputy Inspector General of Police Nalaka de Silva pertaining to an assassination plot against the President will also be conducted in a transparent manner.

The Minister said the accusations directed at the DIG are not being treated lightly adding investigations are currently underway.

Minister Bandara also noted that the DIG has presently been issued mandatory leave until the completion of investigations.

Investigations are currently underway by the Criminal Investigations Department and the Police Special Investigations Unit pertaining to DIG Nalaka De Silva’s involvement in a plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Secretary of Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
