Galle Prison Activity Restricted Following Meningitis Deaths

All activities at the Galle Prison have been restricted following the death of an inmate due to meningitis.

As a result strict health measures implemented subsequent to the death of a 29-year-old inmate, all new inmates due to serve their sentences at the Galle Prison will be transferred to the Angunakolapelessa Prison.

Visits will also be curtailed

On 03 January, a 29-year-old resident of Kottawagama had died of meningitis, while receiving treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.

Last week, two inmates from the Matara Prison too, succumbed to meningitis, while 17 others were hospitalized with high fever.
