Investigations completed against astrologer who predicted Sri Lankan President’s death

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Sri Lanka Police today informed the Colombo Magistrate Court that measures have been taken to obtain the advice of the Attorney General for inquiries against the astrologer Vijitha Rohana Wijayamuni who claimed that President Maithripala Sirisena will die.

When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara today, the CID informed the Court that the investigations had been completed.

The CID further informed the Court that it has been decided to seek advice of the Attorney General for further action on the suspect and reports of all the investigations had been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department.

The Chief Magistrate ordered the case to be taken up again on July 9 and ordered the CID to report the progress of the proceedings on that day.

The suspect falsely predicted Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena’s death before the end of January 2017. The CID arrested the astrologer for allegedly misleading the public by making false predictions.

The former navy sailor, convicted of attempting to assassinate late Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi 25 years ago, has predicted that President Sirisena would die of an accident or an acute diabetic condition before January 26, 2017.
