A powerful magnitude-7.3 earthquake has rocked the northern border region between Iran and Iraq, killing more than 348 people in Iran and seven in Iraq and injuring thousands more.
One Iranian aid agency said 70,000 people needed shelter after the quake, one of the largest this year.
The majority of those who died were in Iran’s western Kermanshah province. Nearly 5,660 were said to be injured.
The hardest hit province was Kermanshah, where three days of mourning have been announced. More than 236 people died in the town of Sarpol-e Zahab, about 10 miles from the Iraq border.
