A Sri Lankan court Monday ordered four media institutions to provide the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) with the unedited video footage of the press conference on the assassination attempt on President Maithripala Sirisena and former defense secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The CID has made a request to the Colombo Fort Magistrate to order the media institutions to hand over the unedited footage of the press conference held in Kandy by Operations Director of Anti-Fraud Task Force Namal Kumara on September 12th.
The CID which is investigating in to the alleged assassination attempt on President Maithripala Sirisena and Former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, made submissions of their findings so far to Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayarathna on Monday.
The CID officials informed the court that they launched an investigation on the orders of the IGP.
Meanwhile, Namal Kumara, who has revealed the conspiracy was summoned to the CID today to obtain a statement regarding the facts he disclosed at the press conference in Kandy. The CID has also taken his mobile phone.
It has been revealed that DIG in charge of the Terrorist Investigations Division Nalaka Silva has conspired with an underworld leader to assassinate the President and the former Defense Secretary.
DIG Nalaka Silva, meanwhile, has been temporarily transferred to the Technical Division of police at Police Headquarters with immediate effect on an order by the Inspector General of Police and with the approval of the National Police Commission police media spokesman said.
