The program to pay compensation for the persons victimized by the unfortunate incidents occurred in Kandy recently and for the properties damaged during the unrest is now underway, Prime Minister’s office said.
Secretary to the Prime Minister, Saman Ekanayake said that all relevant parties have been informed to expedite the payments to the victims and complete the payment within a short period of time.
On the instructions of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, a special mobile service has also been organized on Friday at the District Secretariat, Kandy to pay compensation to the victims of the unrest in Kandy earlier this month.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed to give priority to compensate for the damages of religious places.
Four Ministries will be involved in the payment of compensation according to a decision made by the government on the instructions of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Ministry of Buddha Sasana, Ministry of Posts and Muslim Religious Affairs, Ministry of Rehabilitation and Resettlement and the Ministry of Disaster Management are the four ministries.
Payment of compensation to Buddhist and Muslim places of worship will be made through the Ministry of Buddha Sasana and the Ministry of Muslim religious Affairs respectively.
Compensation payments in respect of damages caused to properties of the general public will be made through the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Resettlement while the Ministry of Disaster Management will make a common estimate of the damage caused to pay compensation.
The Prime Minister had directed that all properties damaged should be fully rehabilitated within four months.
