Moratuwa Mayor, Saman Lal Fernando has been arrested for threatening and obstructing the duties of a female medical officer in a vaccination drive in Moratumulla yesterday (27).
The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member was arrested after surrendering himto the Mount Lavinia Police today (28).
Reportedly, the suspect has instructed the medical officer to vaccinate those he had issued tokens to. The tokens were issued to his close associates.

An argument took place as a result of the medical officer going against the mayor’s orders.
Later the medical officer filed a complaint at the Mount Lavinia Police against the Mayor, accusing him of threatening her and obstructing her duties.
The Mount Lavinia Police had commenced investigations into the incident, following which the Mayor himself had surrendered to the Police.
