A new tax springs from Lanka’s teeming waters

A one hundred rupee tax is set to be imposed on small fish exported into the country.

Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic resources, Mahinda Amaraweera said that the consent of the treasury has been sought to facilitate this move.

The subject minister said that the decision to increase the prices, was taken to discourage the purchase of imported fish as there remains a high population fish in Sri Lankan waters at present.
