Norochcholai power plant to purchase coal under spot tender

Sri Lanka’s cabinet has granted approval to purchase 300,000 metric tons of coal for the Norochcholai power plant under a spot tender from Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises Private Limited.

A cabinet decision said the approval came following the endorsement of the Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee (SCAPC) which considered the necessity of providing coal for the coal power plant in Puttalam.

Accordingly, Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy is to purchase the required quantity at FOBT price of 87.97 US dollars per metric ton from the Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises.

The cabinet decision further said Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises which is a registered supplier of coal, has submitted the lowest bid.

Cabinet also granted approval to establish a 400 Mw Natural Gas Power Plant at Hambantota which will be implemented as a combined project by China Machinery Engineering Corporation and Ceylon Electricity Board.

It will be included in long term energy plan approved by Public Utilities Commission and implemented with relevant approvals.
