PM requests public to give a clear mandate to UNP at local polls to accelerate economic development

Ranil Wickremesinghe today asked the public to give a clear mandate to the United National Party (UNP), the party that he leads, at the upcoming local government polls to accelerate economic development and continue the good governance in the country.

Addressing the masses at the special UNP convention held in Campbell Park this morning, the Prime Minister said the United National Party is the only party that can develop the rural Sri Lanka.

He noted that the government has introduced a transparent governing model that can be applied to all government bodies in the country in order to accelerate development and good governance in the country.

The Prime Minister the UNP is committed to strengthen the future of the country’s youth by providing them employment opportunities and livelihood development programs. He added that only the party has the program to develop the country and has a lasting solution for the housing problem. Therefore, people should hand over the power in the village areas as well to the UNP candidates, he said.

“We got the mandate of the country. Now we are asking for the mandate of the village. We are seeking this mandate to build a better future for everyone in the country, especially for our youth to live without job problems, housing problems or income problems,” he said.

The Premier said that he is ready to arrange a parliamentary debate on the Bond commission report. He said that he will inform the speaker to convene the parliament for this purpose. The Prime Minister further said that the bond auctions committed during 2008 to 2015 should also be investigated as recommended by the Bond Commission Report.
