Sri Lanka Police said that it will take action under the Police Ordinance if the Joint Opposition rally causes any inconveniences to the public.
This was in regard to the ‘Jana Balaya Colombata’ protest rally of the Joint Opposition which is scheduled to be held tomorrow (05).
Meanwhile, it was observed that additional police officers had been deployed to the Cinnamon Garden police today (04) due to the protest rally.
Additionally, Cinnamon Garden, Welikada and Colpetty police stations had sought court orders to bar the protest rally being held in their respective police divisions. However, courts had rejected these requests stating that the police can use their power in case of need.
Police stated that the court orders were sought to ensure the security of the areas they deem that need special attention. Apart from that, they have no intention of sabotaging the protest rally, police further stated.
