The Ceylon Electricity Board says it will be compelled to impose power cuts from Tuesday night if new stocks of furnace oil are not made available for power plants.
“We have fuel stocks until Monday and from their we will have a shortage of 183 MW, as of now we were told we will only get furnace oil by March if we find Dollars” CEB Acting General Manager Dr. Susantha Perera said.
The Yugadanavi 300 MW power station will also run out of fuel in 10 days, but the CEB Official believe the Norochcholai coal power plant 3 will be ready by then completing repairs.
But the official highlighted that the 183 MW shortage will remain until furnace oil are not made available.
He said the timetable of power cuts could be announced on Monday.
Meanwhile, Minister of Power, Minister Gamini Lokuge said that he will submit a proposal to the next Cabinet meeting on reducing the consumption of electricity.
