The Department of Registration of Persons says, a special unit has been established to issue NICs before the Provincial Council Elections, to those who do not have NICs.
The Commissioner General said a recent study has identified the number of people who do not have NICs, to be over 300,000. He further noted that a circular containing instructions in this regard has been issued to Grama Niladhari Officers and Divisional Secretaries.
In the meantime, a special one day service will commence today, to issue NICs for O/L students who have not yet received their NICs.
Commissioner General of Registration of Persons Viyani Gunathilake said the service will be effective from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
