Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 16 Indian fishermen and seized their boats on Sunday for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lankan territorial waters.
According to an ANI report, the Sri Lankan Navy personnel arrested the fishermen from Rameswaram and Mandapam district along with four boats while fishing in the seas near Delft Island of Jaffna.
The 16 apprehended fishermen have been taken to Kankasanthurai Naval Camp.
Earlier, on January 4, the Sri Lankan Navy apprehended 12 Indian fishermen, along with two boats, near the Delft Island.
The personnel, belonging to the Northern Naval Command, apprehended the fishermen, who were natives of Rameswaram district of Tamil Nadu.
