Sri Lanka Navy personnel on Monday (22) have arrested two persons in northern seas with over 150 kg of Kerala cannabis.
A group of naval personnel attached to the Fast Attack Craft, Inshore Patrol Craft and the Special Boat Squadron during a night patrol arrested the two men with the haul of Kerala cannabis in the sea area about 2 nautical miles off Madagal in North.
It is suspected that the suspects had attempted to smuggle the haul of cannabis weighing 151.7kg into the country from India by a small boat.
The suspects aged 29 and 19 are residents of Madagal in Jaffna.
The apprehended persons, the haul of cannabis and the dinghy have been handed over to Kankasanthurai Police for onward legal action.
The suspects are to be produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court today. Further investigations are being carried out by the Kankasanthurai Police.
