A Sri Lankan court Monday further remanded the two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Sunday Leader Chief Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge until 1st of May.
Former senior DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara and former Mount Lavinia Police Crimes OIC, SI Tissa Sugathapala who were arrested over the killing of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge were further remanded when they were produced in the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court Monday.
Lawyers of the former Senior DIG Prasanna Nanayakkara, requested the Court to grant him bail. However, the Criminal Investigations Department objected the granting of bail to the suspect.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigations have revealed that Prasanna Nanayakkara has pressured the former OIC of the Mount Lavinia Police Tissa Sugathapala not to further investigate the murder.
The two suspects have agreed to testify as state witnesses in the case.
The issue of the order with respect to the granting of bail is due to take place on the first of next month.
