The Court of Appeal on Tuesday again extended the interim injunction issued earlier preventing police from taking legal actions against former Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa under Public Property Act. The two-judge bench of Appeal Court Chairman Preethi Padman Surasena and Justice Shiran Gunaratne extended the stay order until 23rd March when they considered the writ petition filed by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today. Petition prevents Local Govt. Elections for Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha

The Supreme Court has issued an interim injunction order preventing local government elections from taking place for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha. A petition filed by three members of the Democratic United National Front has caused this action. The petition says that their nominations were rejected without a justifiable reason. Interim Injunction preventing legal action against Gotabhaya Rajapaksa extended

The Interim Injunction preventing legal action against former Secretary of Defence, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, under Public Property Act, has been extended until December 15. Judges K.T.B.B Dehideniya, President of Court of Appeal and Shiran Gunaratne decided to extend the Interim order. Accordingly, the petition will be taken in court on December 15.

Election Commission decides to call nominations for 93 Local Government bodies with no legal obstacles

The Elections Commission on Monday decided to announce nominations dates, for the conduct of elections for 93 Local Government bodies with no legal obstacles. The decision has been taken when the members of the Election Commission met this morning to discuss the recent Appeals Court ruling that affect the holding of Local Government elections. Accordingly, the Commission decided to instruct all Returning Officers in relation to the nomination.
