President to fill water to Kalu Ganga reservoir of the Moragahakanda-Kalu Ganga multi-purpose irrigation project today

President Maithripala Sirisena will inaugurate filling water to the Kalu Ganga reservoir that is being built in parallel to the Moragahakanda reservoir under the Moragahakanda-Kalu Ganga multi-purpose irrigation project today. In addition, the Moragahakanda Reservoir will be named after the renowned civil engineer Dr. ANS Kulasinghe. The President will also unveil a 27 feet tall granite replica of the Avukana Buddha Statue on one edge of the Moragahakanda Reservoir bund. President, PM declare open Sri Lanka’s largest multi-functional irrigation project

Maithripala Sirisena and Ranil Wickremesinghe on Monday declared open the country's largest multi-functional irrigation project in Moragahakanda ending the water problems faced by the farmers in North Central Province. The Moragahakanda-Kalu Ganga Irrigation Development Project, which is considered as the 21st century's irrigational wonder of Sri Lanka was officially handed over to the Government of Sri Lanka by the Sinohydro China construction company. The Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese embassy in Sri Lanka Pang Chunxue handed over the document in this regard to the President. President makes observation visit to Moragahakanda Project

President Maithripala Sirisena has made an observation visit to the Sri Lanka's largest multi-functional irrigation project, Moragahakanda Project on Friday (22). During the observation tour the President inquired about the electricity generation at the Moragahakanda hydro-electricity plant which will add 25 Megawatt hydropower to the national grid. At present, the hydro-electricity plant is successfully undergoing the testing works. Earlier this month the President released water for testing the electricity generation at the Moragahakanda hydropower plant when the water level rose to the required level in the reservoir. Hydro power capabilities tested in Moragahakanda under auspices of President Sirisena

Hydro power generation capabilities were tested yesterday, December 02, by releasing water from the Moragahakanda Reservoir. The event was held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. Speaking at the event, President Maithripala Sirisena expressed the following views: “This is a dream come true for me. Back then,, we witnessed the opening of the Victoria Dam. At an election, an MP said on stage that we are visiting projects which they implemented and it was like magic to us. But today I have performed that magic”. New court to be constructed in Matale

The Ministry of Justice has taken steps to construct a High Court in the Matale District. This initiative has been taken after taking into consideration the hardships that  residents of Matale have to undergo. According to the Secretary to the Ministry, Padmasiri Jayamanne, the people of Matale have to travel to Kandy for High Court trials. Matale is the only administrative district in the country without  High Courts. The construction of the High Court is set to begin next month. Meantime, a Magistrate’s Court is also scheduled to be established in Laggala. Furthermore, reports emerge that the current Tourist Magistrate’s Court building will be inundated by the Moragahakanda reservoir in the coming days.
