The Kandy District Secretariat states that compensation will be distributed for properties damaged due to the recent violence in Kandy at 10.00 am on Monday, March 19.
Compensations will be given to the owners of businesses and residences damaged by the Sinhalese mob attacks earlier this month.
Accordingly, Rs. 500,000 each will be paid to the families of the people died and Rs. 100,000 for each business or house damaged in the violence.
During a visit to Kandy last week, Prime Minister Rani Wickremesinghe instructed the officials to assess the damages to the houses, religious places and vehicles and pay compensations appropriately.
It was note that there were 87 completely damaged and 196 partially damaged properties including 14 mosques.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Army troops have commenced rebuilding and renovating all damaged properties in the Kandy district.
