A pickup truck travelling at high speed veered off the road and crashed into a house claiming the life of a five-year-old girl on the spot.
The accident took place at the Mangalapura area in Wanathawilluwa when the truck was travelling from Eluwankulama to Puttalam.
Reports say that two others were also run over by the vehicle and have sustained serious injuries.
The 20-year-old youth and a 38-year-old woman are currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
Police investigations revealed that the driver of the truck had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
