MS calls for a new system to manage floods

President Maithripala Sirisena says a system should be introduced to manage floods in and around Colombo and the Kelani River.

Speaking at a discussion pertaining to a project proposal tabled on managing floods the Head of State stressed the implementation of an essential system should not be delayed.

The President’s Media Division said the proposal was compiled following a study of floods reported in and around Colombo in 2008, 2009 and 2016 following inclement weather.

Meanwhile President Sirisena issued directives to appoint an expert committee to expedite the proposed system and to table it before the Cabinet of Ministers for approval.
