A Sri Lankan court on the instructions of the Attorney General has dismissed the case filed against former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, who was alleged of misusing a government bullet proof armed vehicle worth Rs.90 million.
Colombo Chief Magistrate issued the order to dismiss the case following the Financial Crimes Investigation Division’s (FCID) request to seek Attorney General’s advice regarding future legal action against the former Deputy Minister.
According to a motion filed by the FCID, the Attorney General had advised that further legal action will not be taken against the former deputy minister.

Karuna Amman was arrested when he arrived at the FCID on November 29 last year to record a statement over financial irregularities reported during his tenure in the previous United People’s Freedom Alliance led government.
The FCID had commenced an investigation after they discovered a super luxury bullet proof vehicle valued at approximately Rs 90 million from Batticaloa which is suspected to have been used by former Minister Muralitharan.
The FCID alleged that the former Deputy Minister had failed to return this vehicle until August 2016, violating the provisions of Public Property Act.
