Striking Doctors’ union meets with Health Minister for discussions on solutions to their demands

Sri Lanka state doctors’ union, the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA), who launched an island wide token strike this morning, has met with the Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne to discuss solutions to their demands.

Director General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Deputy Director General, KDLK Gunawardena, Director Medical Services Priyantha Atapattu, Prime Minister’s Advisor Dinesh Weerakkody, GMOA President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya and a group of doctors joined the discussion.

The discussions were focused on the ongoing token strike and solutions to meet the 10 demands the GMOA has presented.

The GMOA has launched the island wide one-day token strike from 8:00 am today to protest against government’s failure to meet their demands including a solution to the SAITM issue. The strike has caused severe inconveniences to patients.

The strike is in effect at all government hospitals excluding maternity hospitals, the cancer hospital, the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Army Hospitals and the emergency services and Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplant Units.
