BIA Customs officials discover 33,600 foreign cigarettes

Sri Lanka Customs has arrested a Sri Lankan woman, allegedly with a stock of foreign cigarettes worth over Rs. 1.68 million.Customs  Media Spokesperson, Sunil Jayarathna, said more than 33,600 cigarettes allegedly in her possession, were taken into custody.

The suspect had arrived in the country from Dubai on the morning of October 31. Jayarathna said that further investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, two Sri Lankan youth, who arrived in the country from Kuwait, have also been taken into custody along with a stock of foreign cigarettes.Eighty-eight foreign cigarette cartons worth over Rs. 880,000 have been taken into custody.

The two suspects have been released after a fine of Rs. 350,000. The stock of cigarettes has been confiscated.
