HRC to issue interim recommendations on gas issue

The Human Rights Commission (HRC) said it will issue an interim recommendation on the gas issue, very soon.

A spokesman said that the people were already in a dire situation and that they could not be allowed to continue to suffer and it was mentioned that, that is the reason they will take steps within a short period to issue an interim recommendation.

The Chairmen of the two gas companies Litro and Laugfs, which have led to the controversy, and representatives of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Industrial Technology Authority were summoned to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka yesterday (17) morning. They arrived there on the second day and had been summoned by the Consumer Affairs Authority, the Consumer Protection State Ministry as well as the Sri Lanka StandardsInstitution on December 9. The spokesman said that steps will be taken to issue this interim recommendation based on the investigations carried out into the facts and observations of the two groups.Litro Gas Chairman, Teshara Jayasinghe, Laugfs Gas Company Chairman K.H. Wegapitiya and the Sri Lanka Institute of Industrial Technology Director General and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Chairman were summoned to appear before the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka at 10.00 am yesterday and accordingly they were present.
