INTERPOL RED NOTICE FOR FORMER CBSL GOVERNOR MAHENDRAN

Interpol has issued a red notice, a request to locate and provisionally arrest, former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran who is a suspect of the Central Bank bond scam.

“International police yesterday(20) issued a red notice for former Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran related to the investigation by the police Criminal Investigation Department of the bond sale,” police said in a statement.
Who is this? Where is this?

Arjuna Mahendran, who is a Singapore national, and his son-in-law Arjun Aloysius are accused of manipulating bond auctions in 2015 and 2016, causing losses of over $11 million to the state.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate Court had issued a warrant for his arrest since Mahendran has failed repeated orders to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department to a record a statement.

However, Mahendran had failed to cooperate with investigation following which officers attached to the CID had requested for an arrest warrant.

Meanwhile, the Owner of Perpetual Treasuries Limited Arjun Aloysius and Chief Operating Officer Kasun Palisena arrested in connection with the controversial Central Bank bond issuance are currently in remand custody.  

Mahendran’s whereabouts are currently unknown.
