Man posing as cop buys fuel for others for a fee

A group of people in a fuel queue in Aladeniya, Katugastota, attacked and chased away a person said to be a police officer who allegedly bought fuel for people outside the queue for a fee while misusing his position and privileges as a police officer.

The person said to be a police officer had allegedly taken money from motorcyclists and bought fuel for them while visiting the filling station in uniform.

The people in the queue who saw the officer in uniform visiting the filling station several times on different motorcycles had uncovered the truth and had then assaulted him.

The person said to be a policeman had allegedly charged Rs. 2,500 from a person to buy fuel.

Following the attack, the person said to be a police officer had run into a nearby shop and had pleaded with those who attacked him to let him go.

But as the crowd converged near the shop he had run into a nearby plantation and had escaped. The people who were present said his uniform was also torn due to the assault. People also said the incident had been captured on several CCTVs in the vicinity.
