When it comes to the economy, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is apparently the very model of political non-partisanship. According to Opposition MP Dr Harsha de Silva, the President has appointed one of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s economic gurus as his very own economic guru.(Duminda Hulangamuwa).
How wonderfully refreshing! The JVP can keep its revolutionary red, Ranil his familiar green, and the President can borrow the economic brains without troubling himself over their political origins. After all, inflation, interest rates and budget deficits have never shown much respect for party colours.
One might even call it political maturity. Others may prefer to call it economic recycling. Be that as it may, when it comes to the economy, apparently it’s the numbers, not the colours!
