Manhandling of female officers: IGP orders Special Investigation

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered the Director General of the Special Investigations Unit to conduct a special investigation regarding the activities of the Chief Police Inspector of Panadura South.

The order to conduct a special probe comes after the incident which took place during a protest march in Panadura on Saturday (12) where several female Police officer were grabbed by the neck and manhandled by the senior police officer.

Speaking to the media today, Police Media Spokesperson SSP Nihal Talduwa said that the Police respects the clauses in the Constitution which ensure the right to freedom of assembly and the right to freedom of expression.

He further said that further action will be taken in accordance with the recommendations made by the Director of the Special Investigations Unit.
