A Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member of the Mihintale Pradeshiya Sabha Nipuna Madusanka has been arrested this morning for assault.
The Councilor is accused of assaulting and injuring a number of people and also pressuring the police.
The attack had taken place last night as a result of a heated argument between the politician and several others.
The Pradeshiya Sabha member was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victims with the police.
Six people injured in the assault have been admitted to the Mihintale and Anuradhapura Teaching Hospitals.
