Minister Mahinda Amaraweera lodges complaint over allegation of a vehicle purchase

Minister of Power & Energy and Transport Services Management Mahinda Amaraweera has written to the Inspector General of Police and the Criminal Investigations Department today (10) requesting an immediate investigation into a report that he was given a Mercedes-Benz vehicle worth Rs. 42 million when he was State Minister of Mahaweli Development during the previous government.

In his complaint, the Minister stating that in the last 10 years of his tenure, he has not used any new vehicle as an official vehicle requested the CID to conduct an immediate investigation into who purchased the vehicle if such a vehicle was purchased in his name, whereabouts of the vehicle and who is using it at present.

The Minister further requested the police to pay attention and initiate action immediately, since he considers purchasing vehicles as alleged is a misuse of public money.
