With preparations under way for his departure, Faiszer Musthapha PC MP is now fully engaged in efforts to secure humanitarian relief for Sri Lankan national Sivarasa Anojan in Saudi Arabia.
Musthapha is preparing to travel as part of an intensified effort to make representations on Anojan’s behalf, following growing concern in Sri Lanka over the reported death sentence faced by the Sri Lankan expatriate.
The mission is expected to focus heavily on the humanitarian avenue available in Saudi Arabia, seeking every possible opportunity for clemency and relief through representations to the appropriate authorities.

Musthapha’s involvement comes after Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath informed Parliament that Musthapha and fellow lawyer Upul Kumarapperuma PC had undertaken to assist with the legal representations in the case, travelling on their own resources.
Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed has also offered his assistance in facilitating humanitarian representations, adding a potentially important diplomatic dimension to the effort.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has meanwhile directed that all available measures be pursued in Anojan’s case.
For Musthapha, the immediate priority is now clear: get to the region, make the representations and explore every lawful and humanitarian avenue still available.
A Sri Lankan life may depend upon what happens next. Be that as it may, no available door should be left unopened.
